One person was killed and more than 50 women were injured in an accident happened on Tuesday night at the Bagodra crossing on the main Ahmedabad-Rajkot highway. According to the report, more than 200 women from Ahmedabad had gone on a pilgrimage to Tarnetar and Chotila.
They were returning to Ahmedabad by the private delux bus. The bus collided with a stationary truck at the Mithapur Patia, a small village on the Limdi-Bagodara highway. The accident happened around 12.30 AM when the driver missed the truck in the dark and collided with it.
One of the women, who was also in the ill-fated bus, said that the passengers were returning from Tarnetar and they were fast asleep. All the passengers felt a major jerk and the whole frame of the bus shook all of a sudden in the midnight. Passengers realized that the bus had collided with something on the road.
The bus-truck collision happened so badly that the left side of the private luxury bus was crushed and the door and front windscreen were cracked. The passengers came out of the bus through windows.
The police reached at the spot and rushed the injured to the VS hospital for treatment. The women had gone to visit the Trinetreshwar Mahadev temple and the Chotila shrine from Ahmedabad. Most of the women belong to Gomtipur area.
A relative of an injured woman said that the driver was driving very carelessly at a high speed in the night. He failed to see the stationary truck coming from opposite direction. He rammed the bus into the truck.
Later, the driver of the bus escaped just after the accident but the guide of the tour, Kalubhai, died on the spot. He was sitting on the front seat and hit by the shattered glass door.
