C.V.S.K Sharma, special officer and commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), said that because of heave downpour, the earth caved in and led to the collapse of supporting iron structure of the flyover that was under construction. Only two of the eight segments or concrete slabs remained to be cleared.

Officials said that it could be more dangerous but because of the Sunday and the heavy rain the traffic was comparatively low. There was no heavy rush at that time.
