
A scuffle broke out between the police and Hindustan Motors’ workers in Hooghly district, West Bengal on Tuesday. Workers of Hindustan Motors’ Uttarpara plant were agitating in front of the gate of the plant in favor of their demand from the management.
Some of the workers, who were not involved in the agitation, were trying to enter into the factory and the agitating worker tried to stop them. After that the scuffle broke out between the police and the workers.

The Uttarpara plant is country’s oldest automobile unit and manufactures Ambassador cars.
The unit has been facing workers’ union strike for the last 27 days.
The workers were asking from the plant management to defreeze DA, making 242 ‘badli’ workers permanent and unconditional withdrawal of suspension of several workers.
Ajay Thakur, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Sreerampore said the clash between agitating workers of the Sangrami Shramik Karmachari Union (SSKU) and the police srated suddenly as the SSKU was stopping those workers who were willing to join work. Police later use force to disperse agitating workers.
On the other hand, Amitabha Bhattacharya, president of SSKU claimed that police have beaten the SSKU workers brutally and eight workers have been injured in lathicharge.
He also claimed that the rival worker union CITU was well behind the scuffle.
