
More than 50 people were reportedly feared to have been brushed away after a cloudburst that occurred over Ghanvi village in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. The workers and employees of the Ghanvi hydroelectric power project on the Sutlej River suddenly swept away when the cloudburst happened on Tuesday evening.
According to the local authorities, the villagers, including women and children, were the most among those feared dead in the horrible cloudburst.
Rampur tehsil sub-divisional magistrate D K Rattan said that when he reached the spot he found chaos everywhere in the area because of the flash floods and landslide happened in the village.
The report said that the cloudburst shattered more than 20 houses in the village. Moreover, in the heavy downpour, a primary healthcare centre, a doctor’s home and a school building were also badly damaged on Tuesday. The officials confirmed that the Ghanvi dam was safe and the engineers were watching the rising river and any kind of damage to the dam.
The report said further that the district administration recovered 5 bodies and 52 people were still missing in the flash floods after the cloudburst. The army groups, and the other groups of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) reached the village in Tuesday night and resumed relief and rescue operation in the village.
