Abduction charge against minister in UP, What would Mayawati do now?

Not only the common people but the people sitting in the highest position in state secretariats are also facing the impact of criminalization of politics in the country now. People saw how a ruling party MLA in Bihar, Anant Singh, abducted and assaulted media persons because they put forward some serious questions regarding his alleged involvement in a rape and murder case in Patna.

People started blaming Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, who has been adjudged no. one CM in India for consecutive two times, for his failure in controlling law and order in Bihar.

No doubt Nitish Kumar was looking as helpless when the case came out in light where an MLA of his own party was involved. However, he ordered the CBI inquiry in the murder of young woman, put Anant Singh, who assaulted NDTV reporter, and his other associates behind the bar within hours. This indicated his strong will power to work against such elements even in his own party. After 15 years of RJD’s rule, that had shaken the state machinery from top to bottom, Nitish Kumar has taken various steps to put the state on the path of development and his works should not be adjudged in hurry.

The basic problem is that political leaders like Nitish Kumar actually wants to work for the welfare of the common people and wants to put the law and order on the right place but this is not an easy task, particularly when we talk about ground realities in Bihar.

Now, the similar incident has happened with UP chief minister Mayawati and one of her Cabinet ministers has been accused of abducting and murdering a woman. On the line of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Bill (MACOCA), Mayawati also introduced the UP Control of Organised Crime Bill (UPCOCA) to deal with the deep-rooted organized crime in state just a week ago.

Mayawati had expressed hope, while tabling the bill in the state assembly; that the UPCOCA would effectively deal with the network of land grabbers, contract killers, kidnappers, contractors, hawala traders, economic offenders, drugs and spurious medicine dealers. The proposed act would work against the public display of firearms to create terror among common people.

Now, Anand Sen, minister with Independent charge in UP cabinet, is accused of abducting and killing a 22 year-old BSP worker, Shashi. Shashi’s father, a resident of Faizabad, alleges Anand, MLA from Milkipur in Faizabad district, for abducting and killing her daughter. Anand is reportedly accused in at least eight criminal cases including that of murder and attempted murder.

Now, the major question is that would Mayawati, like Nitish Kumar in Bihar, take serious step against her own party’s MLA in this case? Mayawati should show greater will-power at this point of time and show the people that she can take strong steps against her own MLAs in such cases.

People in power are the only hope for the common people and they can change the existing system where politics has become a bad name. When people give them a clear mandate to work for the welfare of the society and state, the ruling party and their top brass leaders should show the courage and clean up their own party first.
