Here is a good news for more than two million subscribers of Airtel broadband that they will be able to access the internet at a high speed of 8 mbps now. It may result in an explosive growth in the broadband speed and would boost the Internet use in the country.

On Wednesday, Bharti Airtel launched the broadband Internet access at the speed of 8 mbps for the first time in India. At present, Internet users get the speed not more than the 256 kbps to 4 mbps in India. Now, the speed of 8 mbps would help the Airtel broadband network to start the IPTV (Internet Protocol Television soon in the country.

According to the report, the new high-speed broadband of 8mbps will be available for Internet users for commercial purpose within the next three weeks. The company has launched the high speed broadband initially in Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Delhi and the National Capital Region. Mumbai and Hyderabad are next in the line.

Atul Bindal, President, Broadband and Telephone Services, Bharti Airtel Ltd., said:

With the high speed of 8 mbps, the Airtel customers will be able to download heavy files within reduced time to view streaming video and enjoy online gaming.

The high-speed broadband would help them to browse on multiple windows at the same time and it would not disturb the performances of any application.

Now, the Internet users will not have to wait for longer duration to get any video buffered to watch. With the 8mbps speed, a 5mb music file can be downloaded in just five seconds. It takes 160 seconds to be downloaded on a broadband connection with the speed of 256 kbps.

The 8 mbps broadband access will also have the other features as Netexpert, a complete tool for online navigation and PCSecure, a suite of anti-spyware and other security features.

According to the report, Airtel has also said that the network would provide high-speed connection of 8 mbps as an ‘on-demand’ access for the Internet users working on lower speeds. It would help the users to switch back to normal speed after downloading the movie on the speed of 8mbps.
