Andhra Pradesh government has finally decided to establish a law that would make it mandatory to go for a HIV test before getting married in the state. For this purpose, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy said, the state government is determined to take necessary steps in this direction.

He said it during the launching of ‘Balasahyoga’ that is a project for the welfare of HIV/AIDS infected children with Public-Private Participation (PPP).

Rajasekhar Reddy said that the government would soon bring a legislation to make it obligatory that the bride and the groom would have to take the HIV test before marriage. He said that this is necessary to secure the human rights of young women in the state. The state government would give much priority to the innocent young women’s rights who married off to HIV+ men that hide the fact.

He criticized the people who are opposing this idea on the ground of human rights. He said further:

I don’t understand whether what kind of rights’ discourse allows innocent persons to get infected and affected by the dreaded AIDS.

According to him, Asking for compulsory HIV test to the victims may be called as a violation of the fundamental human rights of the victims but the state government is determined to defend and protect the rights of his or her partner for their future generations.

Earlier, I had posted here an article that how the residents of Budni village, Bagalkot district, Karnataka have made it compulsory for every waiting-for-marriage boy and girl to undergo an HIV test first.

It can be said as a silent revolution to tackle AIDS in rural India. A remote village in Bagalkot district, Karnataka has taught the state as well as the nation how to take steps to restrict HIV cases in the state.
