According to some previous media reports, 24 Assam Rifles Personnel had arrested some fifteen suspected Al-Qaida activists from Moreh in Chandel district, Manipur on August 17.
Now, A senior Assam Rifles official has confirmed that those arrested 15 Arakanese Muslims from Myanmar have no any link with the International terror group Al-Qaida.
However, the security agencies were investigating whereabouts and background of all those 15 people arrested by Assam Rifles to know whether they have any link with any Indian, Myanmarese or international terror groups or not.
IGP (south) of Assam Rifles Maj Gen B K Chengappa said:
So far, we have not found any proof of their links with Al-Qaida. Their affiliation to any terror group is yet to be confirmed. We believe they have some links with a hawala racket.
The suspected activists were nabbed from a house at Moreh Ward number 3 on Aug 17 with some foreign currency including US dollars, Bangladeshi Taka, Myanmarese Kyat and some coins.
The AR officials said that 10 of them were from Myanmar and five from Bangladesh and they had entered into Indian Territory without valid documents. The TOI had earlier reported that those arrested activists were proceeding to Bangladesh via Manipur and Silchar in Assam.
