
Another Lok sabha MP has come under police net in Assam. According to the report, Nazira Police of Sibsagar District, Assam detained, W Wangyuh Konyak, the MP from Nagaland, when he was on the way to Dimapur from Mon.
The police detained the Nagaland peoples Front MP for allegedly shooting a wild stork in a forest near Mesagarh tea estate in Assam.
The report says further that the police arrested the MP under Section 51 (a) of Wild Life Act, 1972. Later, the police told local media that they seized a .22 Rifle from MP’s custody. They also rescued the injured wild stork.
The NPF MP was on way with his convoy of 8 vehicles from Assam to Nagaland. The convoy stooped at the Mesagarh forest area after seeing a wild stork wading in nearby area.
The report says that the MP shot on a wild stork with a.22 Rifle and the wild stork became injured. The local administration sent the wild stork to the Vet for treatment.
When the local laborers working in the nearby Saraidev Tea Garden, Sibsagar heard the gunshot, they gathered in front of the convoy and also informed the local police station. Nazira PS.
Later, the Nazira police station registered the First Information Report (FIR) given by the eyewitness laborers and arrested the MP.
The report says that the eyewitnesses were rigid to say that they have seen the MP had shot the wild stork. Later, the MP’s Personal Assistant (PA), Yantu Konyak, accepted that he had shot the wild stork not the MP. The MP’s PA was detained and sent to Sibsagar.
The local police later escorted the MP to the Assam-Nagaland to restrict any unpleasant incident against him by local laborers.
The District Collector of Sibsagar, NM Hussain, also told Nagaland Page that Nazira Police only detained the Nagaland MP in that case and later freed as his PA confessed for shooting the wild bird. The police have seized the .22 Rifle.
