The bar dancing has been banned in Mumbai dance bars. The Out-of-job performers who were earning money from the bars have been unemployed. Now, they got a mission to fight for their right. They are ready to contest Municipal elections in Mumbai.

In 2005, the Maharashtra government had issued the order to close down hundreds of dance bars in Maharashtra. The logic behind the closing of the dance bars was that it had become the place of corrupted young men and place of crime and prostitution.

With this closing more than 75,000 bar girls became unemployed. They went away to other states to find work. Report says that some of them even turned to prostitution also.

Manjit Singh Sethi, president of the Mumbai Bar Owners’ Association, said that

we have had enough of begging and pleading to the government for our rights. Now we are trying to find our representation in the administration to raise our voice.

According to Sethi, the former bar dancers are expected to meet on Sunday. We will discuss whether they would contest the elections as independent candidates or on any party symbol.

Later he said that we could also have the option to with our own party. The dancers have the plan to contest on at least 50 of the total 227 seats in Mumbai’s municipal corporation elections that are expected to vote on February 1.
