The Jaipur court has granted bail to the Orissa cadre IPS officer Bidya Bhusan Mohanti on Friday Mohanti had surrendered before a local court in Jaipur after hiding for five months for allegedly helping his rape-convicted son jump parole. Later, additional chief judicial magistrate Rajendra Kumar Bansal had sent him in judicial remand for two weeks.
The Jaipur District court accepted his bail plea on Friday and he is likely to be released on Friday evening. His son Bitti was lodged in the same jail when he allegedly helped Bitti to jump parole in November 2006. He is still in hiding for more than one year.
Mohant has been evading both the Orissa and Rajasthan police since August 24. The Jaipur court had even declared him as an absconder for his alleged role in helping his son to jump parole.
According to the report, Bitti was granted parole from November 20 to December 4, 2006, on his father’s guarantee on the grounds of his mother’s illness.
A fast-track court in Alwar convicted Biti in the charge of rape of a Gereman scholar on March 20, 2006 and awarded him life term sentence. Later, Biti jumped parole from Jaipur central jail and has been on the run for over more than one year now.
