The police officers are getting nightmares in Bihar these days. The raids on the house of State’s senior-most police officer and DG Homeguard Narayan Mishra have caused worries to the other police officers. The police officials are suspecting that the Special Vigilance Cell (SVC) is well behind the entire game plan.
Now, the report says that the SVC has been granted the necessary legal status to nail the corrupt police officials. After the raid on the house of DG, the police officers are scared.
They are wondering whom the SVC would target next in line. They are keen to know about the recoveries made at Misra’s house. The officers are still in puzzle as to why Misra was chosen as the SVC’s first target in the list.
The sources said that the SVC is empowered to carry out suo motu raids at any place if it gets report of any wrongdoing. But in the matter of raids in Mishra’s house, it had taken prior permission from the top officials of police headquarters and the state home ministry.
An IG-rank officer was surprised and asked about the necessity of SVC in the state. He said;
What’s the purpose of constituting the SVC when the state vigilance bureau and the CBI are already in existence.
The SVC personnel are recruited on contractual basis and a person employed on a contract cannot act judicially.
Earlier on February 6, 2007, the SVC had lodged an FIR against the complaint of an informer. The raid was carried out very next day at Misra’s residence in two cities.
Later, he was placed under suspension. The action was taken in so quick. Never in the past the government had acted with such promptness in Bihar.
Now, the other police officers are worried and are keen to know the SVC’s further move in the state.
