The Cabinet has introduced a bill, which has proposed some amendments in the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC). There are some revolutionary provisions presents in the bill such as Women judges for rape victims, a witness protection regime, victims’ right to appeal against acquittal of accused and recognition to video recording as evidences.
It will be mandatory for all rape cases to be tried only by woman judges. The Law Commission of India has drafted the provisions of the bill.
There is the provision in the new bill that the victim’s statements and as those of the accused, will be recorded in front of a magistrate. The recording will be treated as admissible evidence by courts.
