The Bhartiya Janta Party has taken a good step forward towards women welfare and paved the way for the women leaders to get one-third representation in the party. The BJP has become the first political party in the country who took a concrete step towards 33% reservation for women.

On Saturday, the BJP national executive came to the decision to amend party’s constitution to implement this new policy in representation in place of the 12-15% that was recommended earlier.

On Saturday, the BJP national executive collectively approved the report on the women representation prepared by Sushma Swaraj. Swaraj recommended the plans in the report the steps to introduce the system at all levels in the organisation, from local to national level.

Now, the BJP would be the single party in the country with 33% presence of women in all units of the organization. Now, BJP’s national council would ratify the decision taken by national executive. Then, the set of central office-bearers, including general secretaries, will have to have women representation as a rule in the organization.

According to the recommendations, there should be women representation in party units at the mandal, zilla and pradesh level. The states, where the BJP unit is yet to go in for organisational elections, will have to conduct the party elections on the basis of new gender rate.

Those states, where party elections have been happened, will have to add the extra number of women to party panels to complete the ration for sure.

Sushma Swaraj said at the national executive meeting at Bhopal that the NDA government had the maximum number of women ministers since the first Lok Sabha was formed in the country. She further said that the BJP is bound to go with the natural process of selecting or electing representatives from the different social classes when forming each unit in the party.
