Borders can't be changed but made irrelevant: Manmohan Singh

History says that we Indians never get tired of talking about peace especially with our reckless neighbors. We know we cannot believe them or on their words but still the ‘talks for peace’ get the bigger space in the main agenda of discussion all the time.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called for turning the Line of Control (LoC) into ‘a line of peace’. This was not the end of his soft heart qualities as he also called to transform Jammu and Kashmir into a great symbol of India-Pakistan cooperation.

These ideas are great if we see it on the papers but are these ideas really possible? Manmohan Singh, at the same time realized that there are many difficulties in continuing talks with Pakistan and he again expressed his hopes that India would continue its dialogue with Pakistan despite of difficulties and the blackmailing of terror in the region.

We can call it nothing but a great quality of optimism. Pakistan is facing the heat of terror inside the country after the incidents of Lal Masjid and attacks on security personnel after Lal Maszid operation.

This is the right time to keep some pressure on Pakistani government to start massive operation to counter terrorist elements from their land. But, our political leadership is habituated to talk for peace only and they are doing this again.

On the occasion of receiving an honorary doctorate from the university in Jammu, Manmohan Singh said that India remained committed to its resolve to end terrorism and ruled out any division or fresh partition of J&K.

He said:

I hope and believe that Jammu and Kashmir can, one day, become a symbol of India-Pakistan cooperation rather than of conflict.

As I have stated earlier, borders cannot be changed, but they can be made irrelevant. There can no be question of divisions or fresh partitions, but the Line of Control can become a line of peace.

He said further:

The real political power in a democracy comes from the ballot box, not the barrel of a gun. India is firm to fight terrorism and to end the blackmail of terror in the peace-loving state, Jammu and Kashmir.

India is desperate to continue the peace dialogue with Pakistan and to start a new phase of better bilateral relations but it depends on Pakistan that how it takes the Indian Peace initiatives.

So, the government of India and the Indian people will have to sit, wait and watch when Pakistan would be accepted Indian initiative and when Pakistani government would transform their heart as soft as India has. Till now, we are doing and we will do the same...talking about peace, peace and peace.

Yes Pratyush, it seems we are doing the peace talk from time immemorial but there hardly seems to be any taking from the other side. As you said it looks best on papers.

Yes Pratiksha...There is a great need to become opportunist and selfish to establish India’s greater supremacy in the global affairs as well as to maintain better relation with our neighboring countries too. Sometimes, our leaders should take strong steps to send signals to the neighbors that we can take some other ways also. But, we can talk about peace only despite of receiving terror in return.
