BSNL launches 'TV in mobile service' in India

The public sector telecom company BSNL has launched the ‘TV in mobile handset’ service for the first time in India. Now, the BSNL broadband customers will be able to use the BSNL broadband multi-play scheme in their mobile handsets till the end of this year.

According to the report, the ‘TV in mobile handset’ service would help the BSNL GSM service customers to watch at least 12 channels including NDTV, CNBC, Aajtak, Times Now, Zoom, Bindaas, ETV and TV9.on their compatible mobile handsets.

The report says further that BSNL has decided to incorporate a total of 32 channels in the ‘TV in mobile handset’ service by the end of 2007. Initially the BSNL customers using selected Nokia handsets will be able to enjoy ‘TV in mobile’ services. The BSNL has decided to extend the service to other compatible handsets of Sony Ericsson and Motorola also.

Moreover, the BSNL has also signed an agreement with Apalya Technologies that would provide the content in the form of TV signals to BSNL GSM handsets. To use the service, BSNL customers will have to go to mobi.tv website via their handsets to view the TV content in their mobile phones.

The BSNL ‘TV in mobile’ service will be free for the next 30 days after launching and the service will be available in the eastern and north-eastern parts of the country.
