Cabinet approves President Rule in K'taka

The political drama has come to an end in the Karnataka politics. On Tuesday, the Union cabinet approved the recommendation report sent by Governor Rameshwar Thakur to President of India for imposing President rule in the state. The governor had sent the recommendation for impose the Central Rule in state after the resignation of CM H D Kumaraswamy.

It happened all of a sudden when some reports started coming in media about the next round of meeting between the separated BJP and JD(S) in Karnataka as last-minute efforts to come together.

Because of JDS chief Deve Gowda’s strong stand against BJP for not sharing the power by giving the CM’s post to the BJP, the 20-month old BJP-JDS alliance came to an end. Both the parties traveled far away from one another but a unconfirmed report of another round of meeting between both parties resulted in the imposition of Central rule in state.

Now, the state assembly will be remained under suspended animation till the ratification of the presidential proclamation by the Parliament. Finance minister P Chidambaram said that the presidential proclamation would be placed before Parliament and the parliament would decide whether to dissolve the state Assembly or keep the House under suspended animation in the view of Supreme Court judgment issued in SR Bommai case.

The Supreme Court had issued the judgment in SR Bommai case that the decision related to dissolving the state assembly or putting it under suspended animation should get the approval from both houses of Parliament. Chidambaram said that it would be placed before Parliament in the next session of Parliament.

According to a report, when Kumaraswamy had asked for an opportunity to go to the floor test to prove majority in house, the Governor bluntly asked him to step down by saying he did not have the numbers needed in the house in his favour.
