An average price for a child worker in Hyderabad is $152 a year. Maximum number of child workers comes to Delhi from Bihar to earn good wages.
These children often become engage in child labor from the age of 6 or 7. Brokers are very much active in the parts of the country where poverty ratio is high.
According to NDTV reports, the Muttadu village in the Krishna district (AP) sends children off to places like Delhi, Kolkota and Hyderabad. About two hundred children do go to big cities every year from this village alone.
A seven-year-old child trades for $87 and 14-year-old may get $330 for a period of one year. Girls are given preference over boys.
Maharastra government has planned to remove the most deplorable form of child labour by 2008 and removal all forms of child labor by 2010. Twenty-five government departments including labour, education, police, women and child welfare, health and revenue will jointly implement the plan.
The Delhi Shops and Establishment Act, 1954 prohibits employment of children who have not completed their 12 years of age. The Factories Act, 1948 prohibits employment of children who are not yet 14-years-old.
Despite all of these existing anti-child labor laws brokers are successfully running the child trade all over the country. Everyone blames poverty and illiteracy but what about the will power of the government to implement the laws?

I have been seeing people exploiting children in Flats, Hotels, shops etc . It’s a pity that little Boys and & Young Girls who should be studying in schools or playing with their friends are forced to work whole day, and this see every day. There is a Flower vendor in our locality who employs all his three sons, 12-15 years, one of whom is a mentally challenged boy of 15, in making flower garland from morning to night 10. Such people must be punished legally without thought and the boys sent to school.
Adityaa,
