Child Welfare Committee bans Budhia's participation in 500-km marathon

The Indian marathon kid, Budhia Singh, was all set to start another 500-km marathon run from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata. The Child Welfare committee has banned Budhia just before the marathon and called Budhia’s participation in the marathon as a violation of human rights and a stunt.

Last year, Budhia had taken part in 60-km run from Puri to Bhubaneswar, that had created controversy on his participation in such kind of activities.

The Child Welfare Committee is a quasi-judicial body that is commended by the Orissa High Court to keep an eye on Budhia Singh’s engagements in activities such as marathons.

The CWC has banned the Budhia Singh Trust and threatened the Trust with criminal action if would violate the order of the CWC in future. On Thursday morning, the district authority stopped the boy from taking part in the 500 km marathon.

The marathon was about to start near the judo training center. Budhia’s mentor Biranchi Das runs the training center. District Collector N C Jena and SP Amitav Thakur were also there to discuss the matter with the marathon organizers.

Amitav Thakur said that they have come to the spot to execute the CWC order in which the committee has said that any person cannot engage the wonder kid in the proposed walkathon. If anybody would try to do it forcibly, deterrent action will be taken against him.

The district administration has also deployed two platoons of armed police at the spot to stop Budhi’s participation in the marathon because Biranchi Das asserted that the event would take place.
