According to studies funded by National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), women who smoke during pregnancy can adversely affect the behavior of their children. Researchers report that children of women who smoked during pregnancy scored higher in the areas of impulsiveness, risk taking, and rebelliousness. Maternal smoking also appears to be linked to child anxiety, depression, and aggressive behavior.
