China blames India for violating border agreement

On Tuesday, China blamed India for violating the bilateral agreement signed between both the neighboring countries to maintain peace and harmony in the border areas. The Beijing administration has claimed that India built two bunkers in their side in the border area in Sikkim.

Just one day before the China’s claim, the government of India had rejected the Chinese army personnel’s demand to remove the two bunkers on the border in Sikkim.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Liu Jianchao, has issued a statement and said that building the bunkers by Indian Army in the Chinese side of the borderline in Sikkim region was the clear violation of the agreement between China and India on maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas.

Jianchao told the media persons that China had earlier requested India to remove the bunkers built on Chinese side of the border line. He also rejected the reports saying that Chinese army has made incursions into Indian region in Bhutan.

On the other hand, India had reportedly claimed on several times that the Chinese army personnel kept on breaking the rules at different places along with the Line of Actual Control (LAC) to assert their claim on certain parts of Indian territories.

Sonia Gandhi is expected to visit Beijing this month at the invitation of President Hu Jintao. With her scheduled visit to China, the controversy couldn’t have been more ill timed for the UPA government.

Indian army personnel were surprised on Chinese protest after two years of setting up the bunkers. An army official said:

They should have protested as soon as the bunkers were built, or at least within a year. These are concrete bunkers and they were not set up overnight.

China’s demand to India for removing two Indian Army bunkers, located near an outpost called Batang La, is a desperate move to gain a leading position at a height on the tri-junction as the adjoining Chumbi Valley in Bhutan. China has been repeatedly asked India to remove the two bunkers located at Doka La those were set up two years ago. According to the report, China still has control over the Aksaichin area in Ladakh claimed several times on Arunachal Pradesh as its own territory.
