
Due to the outbreak of Cholera, at least 70 people have been died in Orissa till the date. According to the report, another 1,500 people are still suffering from this disease. The state health officials confirmed that cholera, a water-borne disease, broke out in the districts like Rayagada and Koraput.
The Chief medical officer in Rayagada district, P. Sitaram said that more than 50 people have been died due to the outbreak of cholera in the district over the past week. Different health officials in the district are treating at least 1,000 people suffering from the same disease.
P Sitaram blamed the stagnant pools used for drinking water and contaminated meat for the outbreak of this water-borne disease in the district. In another district, Koraput, at least 20 people have been died till today in last week. More than 500 people are still being treated in the hospitals.
Balakrushna Sahoo, DM Koraput, said that the teams of doctors are camping in the district to treat cholera patients. Sahoo said that majority of the population in the two districts is tribal and they live with spare health facilities in inaccessible areas.
Chinmoy Basu, health secretary Orissa, said that the government has started taking all possible steps to restrict the outbreak in the affected districts.
