
Army officer KP Vinay Kumar’s marriage was scheduled in October end but family members including Kumar’s aged parents, who were busy with the marriage arrangements, were shell-shocked when they came to know the news about death of his son in Jammu and Kashmir. Vinay Kumar was from Hyderabad, he was shot dead in J&K on Tuesday morning when his troop was fighting against terrorists.
On Tuesday, Major Vinay Kumar received information about the movement of terrorists in Tangmarg of Baramulla district; he rushed to the place with an assault team of soldiers to nab the terrorists. When the soldiers cordoned off the house where the terrorists were hidden, the terrorists suddenly opened fire and a bullet killed the major at the spot.
Vikram, Kumar’s elder brother, said:
The unit officer told me over phone that a bullet pierced through his eye. Death was instant.
Vinay Kumar was in eighth standard when his family had shifted to Hyderabad. Kumar had joined the National Defence Academy in 1994 and rose to the position of Major. Kumar had preferred to join Indian Army despite having the option to join the Air Force. He was in the team of the anti-insurgent operations for the mandatory two-year period. His term was to end in October 2008.
According to another report, another Army officer, Major Raman died at a hospital in Srinagar on Wednesday morning. He was also critically injured during the anti-insurgent operation in Tangmarg area of North Kashmir. He breathed his last at an Army base hospital in Srinagar.
Vikram, brother of Major Vinay Kumar, said that Indian media describe the cricketers as super heroes or national heroes. But, the people of the country should know that people like my brother are the real heroes of the country. My brother sacrificed his life for the country.
