The war is still going on despite of Delhi High court’s intervention in the matter related to the so-called supremacy in AIIMS, one of India’s premier hospitals. The residential doctors and medical students won the battle when the HC ordered health minister A Ramadoss to sign their degrees within 24 hours. However, the tussle between AIIMS director P Venugopal and health minister A Ramadoss is still on.
On the other hand, the Delhi High Court Judge, Justice Geeta Mittal, has issued show-cause notices to Ramadoss and Venugopal by asking why they did not follow the court’s guidelines for the appointment of a registrar at AIIMS.
The HC has asked both the authorities to submit their answers by October 31 as to why contempt of court proceedings should not be started against them. Earlier, the high court had given them time to appoint a registrar but they failed to comply with the court’s directions.
Still, the war is going on and the AIIMS officials and the resident doctors have made a group against Ramadoss, AIIMS president. On the other Ramadoss has teamed up with the governing body where many members are UPA leaders Ramadoss’ friends.
They are mounting pressure on AIIMS director to reinstate former registrar VP Gupta but Venugopal did not attend the meeting on the registrar because his aides weren’t allowed to sit in the meeting.
Dr Harsh, President, Resident Doctors Association said on the whole drama that this is nothing but an insult of the prestigious institution. Health minister has crossed the levels of highhandedness. No decisive matters concerning consultants, resident doctors and medical students have been discussed for a long time in the institution.
