Are the political leaders our national assets? For Judiciary, Absolutely Not. On Friday, the Delhi High Court sardonically told the political leaders to remain in the borders of their homes and offices if they feel threatened by common citizens.

The Delhi HC Bench comprising Justice T S Thakur and Justice Veena Birbal told the center:

The government should not let politicians to come out of their houses and offices. Their presence in public places itself threatens the common men. Why it has become a matter of prestige for them to move with 10-15 uniform security personnel carrying lethal weapon. If these people feel so threatened they should not come out in public places.

The HC Bench expressed annoyance over the nuisance and trouble to the public because of irresistible presence of security guards covering political leaders at public places. Earlier, a PIL was filed before the court on police reforms seeking separation of force into two wings to deal with law and order and Investigation as independent entities.

The court further said that at present going out with armed security personnel has become fashionable and a status symbol for the political leaders. This is intolerable that common men are forced to stand on the pavement and are stopped to even walk when the politicians pass through the roads.

Earlier, the Home Ministry and Delhi Police had informed the court that 70 VIPs were provided with security at the cost to nation.

The ministry and Delhi Police had also submitted separate lists of 355 and 27 people, who were provided personal security cover for their high-rank position and for threat perception as well.

According to the data, more than 3,000 police personnel are currently involved in the securities of VIPs at a cost of about Rs 20 crore in Delhi.

The major question is that why the political leaders, peoples representatives, need such kind of security in their own land? Just imagine if these leaders live their lives under threat to life, what would happen to a common man who holds nothing in his hands to save him from any threat on road.

Should common people carry weapons to save themselves now? Removing the security arrangements to political leaders would save the Taxed money and would save the time and freedom of common people as well.
