Dimapur Police detain ex-air force pilot from Spain living illegally in Nagaland for 8 yrs

Nagaland police has arrested a Spaniard who is illegally living in India for 8 years. The matter disclosed when a matrimonial dispute came to police in Dimapur.

When police took interest into the matter, the story got a twist. The husband caught living in India illegally. Later, the police have investigated the matter and the man, David Artigau Mirralles, 40 claimed that he is from Spain. He said that he is an ex-air force pilot of Spain.

According to the Dimapur SP, Bidhu Sekhar, David had come to India as a tourist in 1994. Then he met a girl named Anita at Kolkata.

Anita, his wife, is originally from Kohima. Later, both get married in Kolkata. After the marriage, the couple decided to live in Kohima, capital of Nagaland.

Bidhu Sekhar said further that his

Passports/Visa/RAP has been expired in 1999. And Since then David has been staying in Kohima illegally. David started minor business here and somewhere started drug usages and probably peddling too.

Later, David started drifting away from his wife and children and even at times abused them. Later, his wife, Anita started living separately and wanted the children to live with her to protect them from their father’s bad influence.

In the meanwhile, Carollene, another drug dependant, a niece of Anita encountered David. In January, 2006 and both Carollene and David eloped to Dimapur and got married. Then the problem started between Anita and David.

Dimapur SP Bidhu Sekhar said in a written statement that when Police finally brought David, the officers were shocked to know that David had no travel documents.

Police needs a lot of homework to do now. The police was alerted on this matter, as he was an ex-air force staff of Spain. His ignorance for his passport/visa renewal has baffled police officials.

Infact, the more alraming fact is that David has been staying at kohima illegally for last 8 yrs and the police couldnt detect him is another matter which needs to be looked into by the police and the intelligence agencies.

Whats the real identity of David? whether he was actually a air force pilot as claimed by him? How he got involved in the Drug business? How deep are his links with the drug cartel?

Nagaland has been reportedly said as a safe passage for the drug peddlers and way back in September 2005, the Dimapur police had caught the biggest haul of cannabis in the region. The Dimapur Police had seized two trucks loaded with about 15 tonnes of cannabis in Dimapur in September 2005.
