A private news channel and Consumer Voice special investigation has inspected the quality of water that is being supplied by municipal corporations to people in metro cities.
They have revealed that the drinking water is not good for health. It may cause potentially incurable diseases.
The drinking water was sent to National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) accredited lab, the Food Research Analysis Centre in Delhi. The water samples had been taken from Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai to test for the contamination level.
The sample collected from Mumbai tested within accepting limits of chemical and microbial contamination in water. The Delhi Jal Board water sample collected from water tanks showed high levels of the disease-causing Coliform bacteria in the sample.
However, the Coliform bacteria and E Coli pathogen were found in most samples collected from Chennai.
In just less than 50 percent of the water samples collected from Kolkata has found hardness and unsafe levels of Coliform bacteria.
The situation is being worse day by day in all the metro cities. The state governments have been failed to provide safe drinking water even in the four Metros.
It will be easy to get the real situation of drinking water problem in the rest of India by seeing the ground realities in even metro cities.
