First, it was Chief Minister of West Bengal, Buddhdeb Bhatacharjee who showed the indication of taking U-turn on the matter of SEZs. Now, Sonia Gandhi has also sent clear indication to the farmers of the country that farmers’ interest is the most important thing for the UPA government.
She said that the government would not take any decision regarding economic development that could hit the farmers’ interest at any level. Earlier, the opposition to the special economic zone (SEZ) policy was increasing from the Union as well as from state governments side too.
She was addressing a public gathering at Sirsa in Haryana on the occasion of Haryana government’s two years in the office.
She further said that the Haryana government has implemented several welfare schemes for the development of the weaker sections of the society. Now, there is a need to introduce some other plans and to review the success of previous plans and projects.
On Samjhauta Express blasts, She said;
The truth will come out after the investigation. But we must realize that the enemies of our country are at work. We must condemn the acts of terrorism united.
She showed her great concern on the declining sex ratio in the state and said that the government has taken important steps for development of the women of every section.
The UPA government is talking much about the farmers. It might be the impact of the upcoming Assembly election in one of the most politically important state, Uttar Pradesh.
The Haryana CM, Bhupinder Singh Hooda also said that he has decided not to charge the interest on loans taken by farmers from cooperative banks for the cause of land development or for farming too.
He said;
The farmers who failed to pay back the loan amount and interest by March 31, 2006, will now have to pay the loan amount only to the cooperative banks.
