The Himachal Pradesh government has taken strong step to restrict the female feticide in the sate.

The government is considering for an amendment in the Indian Penal Code.

After the necessary amendment, the practice of female feticide would be considered as a crime equivalent to murder.

Furthermore, the government is planning to give Rs 10,000 to the people who give the information to the administration about this crime in the state.

The Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has announced this at a seminar on female feticide and the role of NGOs. The State social board had organized the seminar.

Virbhadra Singh said that the people who are involved in this atrocious act and who do this act it would be equally responsible for this crime.

However, he said also that the latest data shows that the cases of female feticide have declined in the state. He further said that the state government had a plan to grant Rs 5 lakh to panchayats for developmental work where the female birth would be more than boy’s birth.
