Govt accepts AXN's apology, lifts ban from transmission

The Government has finally decided to lift the ban from AXN channel with immediate effect. Some six weeks ago, the government had banned the channel for showing a show ‘World’s Sexiest Advertisements‘.

On January 17, the Information and Broadcasting ministry had put an objection on the indecent content of the show and had banned its telecast in India till the end of the show.

Government has called the show as against good taste or decency and likely to adversely affect public morality.

According to a senior official of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, The channel have submitted an apology on that matter. The government has accepted the apology and lifted the imposed ban on the telecast of the channel in India. earlier, the government had banned the transmission of channel till March 15 in India.

The government of India has the power to regulate or prohibit the transmission or re-transmission of a channel on a program under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995. The act empowers the government to do it in the name of public order, decency, or morality.

The I&B Ministry quietly issued a statement on Wednesday by stating that the channel will not attempt to show similar programs that would offend Indian sensibility.
