Kerala Fisheries Minister S Sarma told media persons that the government has planned to communicate technical education and financial assistance to the people living in this region with the help of the SUPPLYCO and the Consumer Fed and the fishermen.

It would help the government to earn more revenue from this region and to develop the local business here.

The report says that at least 550 families of the coastal region in nine districts have no houses or land. 250 families have the land but they are unable to build a house because of poverty.

Further, the government has planned to supply LPG kits to 100 fishermen in view of increasing cost of running kerosene-propelled engines. The fishermen would also get a subsidy of Rs 4,000 per unit.

According to Sarma, the Kerala government would start the groundwork of the fishing harbour in Kasaragod as soon as the Central Statutory Financing Committee would sanction the project.

For the initial works, the government has been formed a committee comprising the Kasaragod District Collector and the Fisheries Director. The committee would work for the development of the basic infrastructure facilities for the local people living in the coastal region.
