Harvard & IIM A prepares combined program to teach IAS officers in India

Now Harvard University is all set to teach Indian civil servants on “Governance Challenges in India.” Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government ready to start its four-week program expected to be commenced next month.

At the beginning, almost 360 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers of age group of 26-28. For this work, the faculty of the Kennedy School and faculty of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, has acted as a combined team. They made an incorporated program of study that will be taught jointly by faculty from both institutions.

The main area of the study program will be the steps to establish good governance, political economy, and policy analysis. It will be taught through lectures and specially designed exercises.

However, IAS officers frequently visit Harvard but it is happening for the first time that Harvard is coming come to India. Earlier, Kennedy School and the Government of India, Department of Personnel and Training have signed a 3-year agreement to design, develop and deliver the program for Indian civil servants.

David Ellwood, dean of the Kennedy School, said that

India, an absolutely essential and engaged global leader, has a past of great highly capable civil servants and a strong commitment to training.

Now, this new partnership would enhance the knowledge and skills of those public leaders charged with helping solve the most critical public problems facing India today.

I don’t think it is very good deal. As our management school are going great in world. Why should we take the help of a foreign institution to train them. More over these foreign institution don’t have familiar with the India Political and Social conditions. Thats may create problems to the teaching faculties and the learners.
