The rising wave of human trafficking, mostly women and girls, can quicken the spread of HIV/AIDS in the north east region. The Nedan Foundation conducted a seven month long study in mostly in isolated regions in north east states of Indian subcontinent.

The study was sponsored by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and will be released soon. About two hundred tribal groups reside in this region. Poverty and inner confliction can be said as the causes of this mounting problem of human, mostly female trafficking. The illegal human trafficking can spread AIDS viruses dangerously.

It was largely noted that about hundred young women were missing from the tribal camps in last two years. They are at risk to be sold for prostitution in other parts of the country. They can easily been the carrier of HIV because of unawareness about the dangers of HIV. The key findings in this study should be taken as a serious matter by the government, as well as NGOs.
