M F Husain’s latest painting exhibition in London included two nude portrayals of Hindu goddesses. Mr. Husain did it again in the name of art. The angersand furious debate has set off on this issue in the Hindu community in London.
The reaction came on the exhibition as well as the Indian government’s alleged refusal to take note of that. The government’s prompt reaction on the release of the movie ‘Da Vinci Code’, the cartoon issue and many other similar incidents can be remembered easily. It took great care of the sentiments of every minority sectors. Then why the majority’s sentiments repeatedly are being ignored?
The Indian high commissioner Kamalesh Sharma inaugurated the exhibition in Asia House and refused to say anything on this matter. Later Asia House closed the exhibition in respect to Hindu pressure. The art exhibition got several angry emails and phone calls from Britain’s 700,000-strong Hindu community. The role of Kamalesh Sharma’s role in the whole affair poses India’s double standards in the treatment of Hindus and other religions.
