India is in desperate search of alternative sources of energy and as the result, now, electricity is going to be generated by bamboo in Northeast. The project, named as, Zoram Energy Development Agency (ZEDA) project is the brainchild of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and the Ankur Scientific Energy Technologies.
During this process, bamboo will be first harvested, dried, and then processed for feedstock to produce gas that would finally be converted to electricity.
India grows about 80 million tones bamboo every year and ranks second largest producer in the world. Northeast region, alone, grows about 40 million tones bamboo. A bamboo-fuelled eco-friendly power station is going to be established in a village in Mizoram at an estimated cost of 0.62 million U.S. dollars.
