According to a report, the special forces from India and Britain would carry out high-altitude battle maneuvers in Laddakh region in the end of the month September.
The main purpose behind conducting a joint military exercise is to target the terrorist hideouts in mountains. The joint exercises would spread over 12 days in the frontier region of Ladakh near the border of China.
At least 150 British Marine Commandos and 150 commandos from India’s special forces will be involved in the joint exercise. An army official said that the joint exercise would be in long endurance and survivability manoeuvring in ice-packed Himalayan region.
According to army official, the joint commandos exercise would involve some classic commando’s action such as surprise hit-and-run attack practice by the troops operating in the mountains at the heights of more than 3,500 metres from sea level.
The main aim behind the joint exercise in the Laddakh region is to prepare a better plan to counter the terrorists hiding the mountains. This is also a sign of growing cooperation between India and Britain in the battle against terrorism.
With this exercise, the Special Forces from both countries would tune the tactics against terrorists. Britan has asked India to choose Ladakh region for the joint manoeuvres because the Laddakh region has a creepy semblance to Afghan highlands
Earlier, Indian and US Special Forces had also held mountain-warfare joint-military exercises in the same Laddakh region in 2006.
