India, China to drive Internet revolution in future

India and China will be the future drivers of the Internet and would ignite the Internet revolution because of its huge populations. Sun Microsystems CEO Jonathan Schwartz said that the bulk of the server maker’s revenues in next five years would come from the Asia Pacific region with India, China would be right at driving seat.

According to Schwartz, the Asia Pacific region is the fastest growing region and it is likely to increase company’s revenues to 40% by the end of year 2012.

In 2006, the Ais region had contributed 17% of the company’s $14 billion revenue collection. In 2007, the revenue went up to more than 11% growth since last year revenue generation. The growth was almost twice that of Sun’s overall growth.

Schwartz said:

Five years ago, if you had to set up a data centre, it had to be in Manhattan, or may be in the Bay Area. Now, in coming days, given the talent, resources and needs, most data centres will be in Apac region particularly in India and China.

The momentum of Internet revolution is being shifted from rich countries to hugely populated countries such as China, India and Indonesia. The teenagers are being habituated of Internet use and the explosion of social networking sites has enhanced the Internet boom in these countries.

Various institutions are also creatively using Internet to bring services to people in poorer countries who are otherwise difficult to reach out to.

He said:

The Internet is the most powerful social utility the world has ever seen. And countries with higher populations will use the Internet more. The APAC region has the greater potential to grow the Internet use at huge momentum.

According to the report, India’s developer numbers would possibly give a tough competition to US in coming days. In Sun’s developer network, India and China account nearly 50% of total worldwide number.
