The growth of any medium of mass communication needs the support of technology. Because of the technological advancement of visual media, it scored over print media in India.

Now, the the technology is switching over its focus to Internet media in India and online media is on way to score over electronic media in India.

There is another revolution in waiting in India. The Indian entertainment and media industry is going great and all set to be emerged as the fastest growing market in the global entertainment and media space.

In the next five years, India media industry is going to register overall growth in the Internet portals’ business and online media and advertisement.

With the introduction of new web portals, online news sites and increasing Internet users, a larger piece of advertising and news viewership has been passed on to Internet from TV and other medium.

However, the report also said that with the increase of Internet in Indian media and entertainment space has caused little worries among traditional segments such as radio, TV and films.

According global consultancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers’s report, The market capital of global E&M industry has the capacity of more than Rs 1,00,000 crore.

The market is all set to grow at a compound annual rate of 6.4 percent and by the year 2011, the industry would probably touch $2 trillion mark.

The PwC report says that the Asia-Pacific is the fastest-growing region in the global market and India and China is leading the industry growth in this region.

The report says:

India will be the fastest growing countries over the next five years at 18.5 per cent Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) while China will continue to record double-digit annual gains that will average 16.8 per cent CAGR.

According to PwC Executive Director Timmy S Kandhari, Indian E&M industry would earn the revenue of Rs 1,20,871 crore by the year 2011. In 2006, the revenue was at Rs 51,715 crore.

The increasing numbers of Internet users in India would drive the Internet advertising and it would become the fastest growing segment in the coming five years.

Online media and news portals have started creating space for itself in the Indian media industry now. The Shimla-based Instablogs that is a network of more than 200 news-based blogs, is one of best example of the growing online media in India.
