India ready to launch IPTV Services in Delhi and Mumbai



Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (MTNL) is all set to offer Internet Protocol TV services (IPTV) under the Tri-Band name. Its trial services is waiting for the green signal from the authorities to start pilot runs in New Delhi and Mumbai.



For delivering the services MTNL will make commercial bondings with other broadcasters such as STAR TV, Prasar Bharati, Zee TV, Sony Entertainment.



According to the Financial Express, There is no policy for IPTV services existed in India. For this purpose the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has prepared a paper on the needed amendment to the country’s Cable TV Act to imply it.



The launch of Commercial IPTV services in two metros is just targeting 200,000 subscribers. On the other hand, Bharti communication is also conducting trial runs in Gurgaon near New Delhi.
