Indian higher Institutions get DEC approval to offer online programs

The Distance Education Council (DEC), the governing body for distance and online education in the country, has decided to remove the geographical jurisdiction clause actually restricts educational institutions not to operate out of the state boundaries. It has not allowed the IIMs and IITs to start online programs till yet.

Now, another Business school, Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon is also planning to offer some online executive programs for foreign executives. Sujit K Basu, director MDI, said:

We are looking at distance education for executives abroad, especially corporates who are interested in the Indian market.

Now, the Business schools may also plan to tie-up with foreign B-schools to offer distance education in collaboration too.

M S Ananth, director, IIT Madras, director said that the course material is already available. The same material would be offered to students online for self-study. However, the institute is still not ready to start any degree or certificate online courses.

The International College of Financial Planning has already announced about the starting of the online program in collaboration with the New Zealand Institute of Online Learning.
