'Indian Idol' fever grips North-East India

In Northeast state Meghalaya, from state government offices to the population in tribal regions, the chief minister’s secretariat to the Raj Bhawan, and schools and colleges, the only topic of discussion is that “Will Amit Paul be the next Indian Idol?”

The fever of ‘Indian Idol’ has gripped the entire northeast region. The people of this region are more excited to see who would win the battle in the grand final in Indian Idol that is scheduled to be on September 23. They are busy sending SMSs for their favourite singer. This has become a battle between Indian Idol show lovers particularly the people between Dargeeling and Shilong.

The one finalist Amit Paul belongs to shilong and the other finalist Prashant Tamang belongs to Darjeeling. They are the new stars of Northeast India. One of them would get the title ‘India Idol-III’ on September 23.

The Indian Idol fever has not only gripped the common people in this region but politicians and bureaucrats have also been jumped in the battle to cheer and support their own contestant. The people have started organizing rallies in the streets of Kurseong, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Shillong, Nonngpoh and Jawai to show their support for the duo finalists.

Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang has reportedly brough a new mobile set only to send SMSs to Amit Paul. He said:

I have made Amit Paul brand ambassador of Meghalaya. He has brought laurels to the state.

The other ministers in Meghalaya have even set up PCOs in their areas so that people could easily vote for the new singing sensation Amit Paul.

Everything has been stopped in the state because of the Amit Paul mania. A local treader said this was really a peculiar thing. He said: Nothing is working at this moment as Amit mania is driving everyone crazy in the state.

People are being humbly forced by the other family members to send SMs in favor of their favorite. Many people, who were initially not interested in sending SMSs, later fell in line when saw people are so much enthusiastic to vote for their favourite finalists.

This is being said in reports that Prashant is getting better advantage in the musical battle. Prashant belongs to Darjeeling and he is getting support from Darjeeling. He is originally from Kalimpong, Gangtok so he is getting support from Sikkim. He works with Kolkata Police so people of Kolkata have also become mad to send vote for Prashant.

Mobile phone service providers are making good money from the SMSs sending to vote in Indian Idol. According to the service providers, SMSs worth Rs 450,000 were sent every hour from across West Bengal during the past few days.

This is the story of one Musical talent hunt show and the other two similar shows, ‘Sa re Ga Ma Pa’ on Zee TV and ‘Voice of India’ on Star Plus are yet to arrive in the final round. This is really a good news for cell phone service providers in the country...
