Indian Scientists find a rare medicinal plant after 115 yrs

Scientists have found a rare medicinal plant in India. Scientists were working in the tropical forest in Upper Subansiri district in Arunachal Pradesh.

During their botanical research work, they suddenly found the rare medicinal plant that is a specimen of Begonia Tessaricarpa. The plant was last seen some 115 years ago.

The November issue of the scientific journal Current Science has published the detail of the finding and about the advantages of the plant. The herbaceous plant used to treat stomachaches and dehydration. Its juice was reported to ward off leeches in earlier times.

Earlier, British scientist C B Clarke had listed the plant in scientific literature in 1879 and 1890. That was the last time when the plant was seen. Since then it had not been seen.
