
A Group of Ministers (GoM) has drafted a legislation to allow foreign educational institutions to open campuses in the country India. After getting the assent from the government, the act will allow Oxford, Harvard and Stanford to set up institutions and offer degrees in India.
According to the commerce and industry minister Kamal Nath,
GoM has come on the consensus regarding the factors of the proposed Bill to make smooth the progress of foreign institutes get a set up in Indian educational sector. It will be helpful to bring back the Indian teachers working abroad.
However, he also said that the proposed bill would not be tabled in the current session of Parliament.
The government is looking serious in this direction as even PM also emphasized the need for a correct policy framework to meet the demand of investments in Indian educational sector. According to a data, more than 1.3 lakh students spend about $4 billion par anum to study abroad.
On the other hand, the human resources development ministry has opposed this step. It said that the foreign institutions would be right under the same net of the rules and regulations governing private institutions in India.
