On 07/07/07 in Lisbon, the names of New Seven Wonders of World announced and the 17th-century love monument ‘Taj Mahal’ has found its own place in the elite list.

Earlier on June 8, the Taj Mahal had been listed in the most popular 10 wonders alongwith Christ Redeemer, Colosseum in Rome, the Eiffel Tower, the Great Wall of China, Peru’s Machu Picchu, Petra in Jordan and the statues of Easter Island.

The Indians everywhere were waiting to see India’s 17th century marvel monument in the seven wonders of world. For this, Indians had started insisting people to vote in favor of Taj. Now, this wonderful man-made marvel of love gets greater recognition.

The other wonders were the Great Wall of China, Petra in Jordan, Statue of Christ Redeemer in Brazil, Machu Picchu in Peru, Pyramid of Chichen Itza in Mexico and the Roman Collosseum in the list that was announced at a ceremony in Lisbon.

Indian actor Bipasha Basu announced Taj Mahal as one of the wonders and Agra Mayor Anjula Singh received the award.

It was the result of the overwhelming support and votes through SMSs and online voting by Indians living anywhere. The voting was conducted by the New 7 Wonders Foundation, a Swiss non-profit group.

The other celebrities, present at the center-stage of the function, were Blary Swank, Ben Kingsley, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neil Armstrong.
