India's confusion over Israel Lebanon Hezbollah Conflict

Foreign policy of India towards Israel and Middle East has some reflections of shifting as Prime Minister Singh expressed serious concern on the conflict with a badly managed reaction over the Israel Lebanon Conflicts.

The Prime Minister told the house that India had criticized earlier the abduction of two Israeli soldiers by the Hezbollah cadres. (That shows India’s softness on Israel)

At the same time, cautious Mr. Singh applied the balance in the view and criticized the Israeli Defence Force’s (IDF) actions as disproportionate and excessive military retaliation. (Palestine is also a good friend)

Then the PM came on the talk about the humanitarian aid provided by India to Lebanon. At last but not the least, he gave detail of the efforts by the Indian Navy to evacuate Indians from Lebanon.

Let’s talk about the reactions of political parties in India. UPA’s main ally Communist Party of India Marxist CPI-M however, started a signature campaign against Israel and demanded from the Government to take a strong stand against Israel.

The main opposition party Bharatiya Janata Party chosen to stay away from the anti-Israel campaign and has not taken a strong public stance until now.

India’s foreign policy, it seems, is being formulated and forced by the divisive communally motivated political parties associated with the government.

It may be easily seen that parties like Samajwadi party (SP), DMK, TDP, RJD and moreover, Congress itself, have less to do with Indian interests but a whole lot to do with Muslim Vote Bank politics.

The Muslim vote bank hungry regional parties are taking Indian Foreign Policy to the ancient age. Indian diplomatic efforts should work with the International Community towards establishing sustainable peace in the Middle East.

There is no need for India to go out of its way to take a ridiculous didactic position on this issue only to appease the particular vote bank.
