
Intel Corp. has announced to make Indian kids computer-savy under its plan ‘Intel Teach program’. In this plan, the Intel corp. will donate 10,000 personal computers to the state governments as well as teacher training institutes in India.
Further, it will train about 1 million teachers on the application of technology that would help them to improve classroom learning.
Craig Barrett, Intel chairperson, said on announcing the education and digital healthcare programs in India, Intel plans to donate 10,000 PCs in India until 2008.

Barrett was saying this on his eighth visit to India. This time he is on the visit of India as the chairperson of the U.N. Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technologies. The PCs will be already connected with Internet with Microsoft software applications.
Earlier, Intel had trained about 600,000 teachers in 14 states throughout India under the program. The Intel Corp. is planning to expend $1.1 billion within the next five-year period.
Barrett said further that the dropout rate in India is increasing at threatening rate. Computers in schools would help to retain students in schools.
On the other hand, Intel’s chief rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc.(AMD) has also showed the interest in and agreed to open India’s first chip fabrication factory worth $3 billion in India. The SemIndia, a consortium of Indian businesspersons is backing the AMD plan.
