Could you believe, the Income Tax department has claimed to trace unaccounted wealth of Rs 35,000 crores, 10 Swiss Bank accounts and many more known and unknown source of wealth from a Pune-based businessman, Hasan Ali. This man could possibly be one of the top five richest Indians or the fourth richest man in India if we go to the reports of IT department.
On January 5, the I-T department has raided Ali’s residence in Koregaon, Pune and got the details of his accounts from his computers. The coordinated raids were also conducted on Ali’s properties in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore. Later, the issue was sent to the Central Board of Direct Taxes, the Finance Ministry and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) by the IT department.
Later ED officers went to Switzerland and froze seven of Ali’s 10 accounts. Earlier, the I-T department has questioned Ali but later freed him and Ali seems to have gone undercover.
The IT raid has been called as the biggest income tax raid ever conducted in India.
However, this is the detail of the amount IT has caught only from his known sources and Ali’s accounts on his computers. The actual worth of wealth is still unknown and yet to be estimated.
If we go by the conservative estimates, this man can be placed, possibly, next to Azim Premji. Rs 35,000 crore from known sources would place Hasan Ali at fifth place in the list of Rich Indians. Other Indians are as LN Mittal (Rs 1,49,661 crores), Mukesh Ambani (Rs 86,585), Anil Ambani (Rs 77,7140 crores), Azim Premji (Rs 59,052 crores) in the list.
DLF’s KP Singh would come down to 6th place who has wealth worth of (Rs 22,194 crore). There are some speculations after considering Ali’s visible list of properties and wealth that Hasan Ali may surpass even Azim Premji and could be rated richest undercover Indian.
According to CNN IBN reports, Hasan ali owns a stud farm, exports purebred horses. He has the property of thousands of crores in Pune alone. According to investigators, Ali could be a big player in the Hawala circuit also.
