For Microsoft owned Hotmail.com users the Jammu and Kashmir is not the part of Indian Territory as the Hotmail does not recognize J&K as Indian state. This is not case with Hotmail only; the very Indian portal Rediffmail.com includes Jammu as part of India but excludes Srinagar from the list of cities.
Hotmail is said to be the world’s largest free Web-based e-mail service provider. The people in more than 220 countries and territories do use the services. The absence of Jammu and Kashmir from the list of Indian states in the Hotmail account sends wrong message to crores of Hotmail users that Jammu and Kashmir is not an Indian state.
According to the report, MSN Hotmail has at least 190 million active accounts. That means the service provider, with grand base worldwide, is sending messaghe to the population as large as world’s 5th largest country that Jammu and Kashmir does not exist in India.
Nitin Desai, Chairman of the Internet Governance Forum, said on this matter that this is really surprising issue. This misleading notion needs to be addressed soon by the service providers. On the other hand, the MSN and Rediff.com officials said that thisnis nothing but a technical mistake and it would be rectified soon.
