Leaders arrested in Nagpur, created rage among dalits

First Khairlanji and then the vandalism of Ambedkar’s statue have been created fury in Maharashtra. The dalits are continuously protesting against the statue vandalism. The protest had been gone violent in some parts of the state.

The Maharashtra Government, on the other hand, arrested dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar, D Raja and Ramdas Athawale in Nagpur. These arresting has again created anger among dalits who are protesting against the statue vandalism incident, which had happened in Kanpur.

Dalit organisations have made a plan organise a rally of more than one lakh people in Nagpur to lodge protest against the killing of four members of a dalit family in Khairlanji as well as vandalism of the Ambedkar statue in Kanpur. The left party leaders and other social activists have supported this rally in Nagpur.

The police have been already detained Brinda Karat, Jogendra Kawade, Sulekha Kumbhare and Rajendra Gavai into preventive custody. The dalits has a plan to march and organize a protest at ‘Deekshabhoomi’ where Ambedkar had embraced Buddhism in 1956. However, the police have made an appeal to people not to go at ‘Deekshabhoomi’.
