An alert citizen, elderly Muslim driver, did his duty when he noticed the suspected behavior and movements of his four customers, three men and one burkha-clad woman, on October 23. He straightaway went to the Dadar police station and informed the police about their suspected movements in the city.
According to a top police official, the trio had visited several sensitive places in Mumbai including Mahim Dargah, Haji Ali, Mahalaxmi temple, Siddhivinayak, JJ Hospital and Hilton Towers. The Mumbai Police has warned that they may have been suicide bombers.
The Mumbai police was secretly on the mission to track those suspected terrorists but some police officials leaked the information about those people to the media. The top brass officials had used harsh words for the police officer who must have passed on the sensitive information to the media.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) K.L. Prasad said in a press conference that the trio suspects were alerted after airing news about their movements in the city. The police might never catch them now.
KL Prasad said:
The officer who betrays his uniform cannot be a legitimate son of his father. The officer has made this task an almost impossible one.
According to the report, the mission of Mumbai Police, that started about two months ago, had reached a critical point when the taxi driver described the Police about their movements. The Police teams were very close to catching the trio suspected terrorists. Prasad said that now the months of hard work had turned futile.
The taxi driver had also told the police to about the two bags, contained unknown material, they had left in the taxi near the Sidhivinayak temple. The taxi driver had also told the police that one of them was speaking in the Hindi close to that used in northern India and Kashmir.
Now, the Police had sent the information to the Anti-Terrorism Squad, crime branch units and to a few officers leading the detection squads at different police stations across Mumbai. The Mumbai Police has flashed the sketches of all the suspected terrorists across the country.
Prasad said:
We urge residents to contact the nearest police station if they find any of the three. If they have information on three suspected terrorists, they should call on 100 or their local police station.
